Am I the only one who balks at this notion of being congratulated for “surviving” and doesn’t find it at all empowering anymore? I mean if that works for you, awesome (this is not being said sarcastically at all.) But that line of thinking doesn’t do me any good now. You know that saying “When all else fails, survive. They really hate that.” I guarantee you I hate it even more than they do.

The same people who think surviving is something to be proud of are the same as those who think we should all be happy to be alive. Being alive isn’t something all of us are happy about.

yeah actually i have always found it really patronizing when people say “bbbut you’re a SURVIVOR! you’re TOUGH!” like all of that trauma and bullshit was totally worth it in the long run or some shit
